From Fridge Fires to Family Wins: How Kate and Phil Got Their Time Back

Kate and Phil run their own business, raise two boys (10 and 14), wrangle a dog, keep a modestly large suburban home standing upright, and somehow still have a social life. If that sounds like a lot and it was a lot for them too.

Before Finer Details came along, they were doing what most busy families do,  piecing it together themselves. They had a cleaner, a gardener and a pool technician, all reasonable services, but Kate was the one juggling the texts, the calls, the payments, and the “wait, did the gardener come this week?” mental gymnastics. Home maintenance ran on a “we’ll deal with it when we deal with it” system, which is really just code for we’ll deal with it when it breaks.

And when it broke,  like the infamous fridge that gave up the ghost with zero warning,  the wheels didn’t just wobble, they came clean off. One emergency would derail part of the week, other things would fall through the cracks, and suddenly a Tuesday looked like a game of whack-a-mole nobody signed up for.

Five years ago, a colleague mentioned Finer Details to Kate, she figured it was worth a conversation and it was.

What Changed

These days, Kate and Phil hand us everything from booking haircuts to organising girls’ weekends away, right through to managing maintenance on both their home and their holiday house. Big jobs, small jobs, “I forgot this was even a thing I needed to sort” jobs,  it all goes comes to us, not through Kate’s already-full brain.

Here’s the bit we’re particularly fond of,  both Kate and Phil are out the door early, well before most businesses have even switched the lights on, so if something happens overnight like a tile comes loose in the shower, the pool pump starts making that noise or they are having friends over and have no time to grab the shopping/organise catering or a thought pops into Phil’s head at a red light on the way to work, they don’t need to sit on it all day or scramble to make a call between meetings.  It is as easy as firing off a quick voice note or text, and we take it from there during business hours and we send a calendar invite if it is something they need to be aware of.

No mental sticky note, no “I’ll deal with that later” that quietly becomes “I forgot about that entirely.” just one less thing taking up space in their heads before 8am.

It’s the same principle behind,  the family holiday that gets booked without twelve browser tabs open at midnight, the dog that is picked up, delivered to the groomers and returned home happy,  the tradesperson who turns up on the right day because someone actually confirmed it….. someone who isn’t Kate.

The Real Win

It was never really about the fridge, or the haircuts, or even the holiday house, it’s about Kate and Phil getting to run their business and raise their boys without also running a second, unpaid job as household admin managers,  five years with Finer Details has actually bought them,  headspace, a right hand that is on call and preempting gutter cleans, air conditioners servicing, all before seasonal change.

And honestly, that’s the whole point of what we do.
