You know those days when you have a head full of the day ahead and you’re rushing around to get out the door to make an appointment and you have a “morning mishap”?
This happened to me just this week, with my arms full of lunch, client folders, handbag, phone, keys and drink bottle, it was inevitable something would give.
My stainless steel drink bottle dropped and the top flew off spilling the contents over the garage floor and denting the base so it no longer sat flat.
As I had already locked up the house and was pushed for time, I thought for a moment about buying a replacement drink during my day.
Instead I considered…what if I am meant to run a little late……miss some traffic, see someone I need to see etc.
So I unlocked the house and replaced my bottle and started to feel relaxed. A mishap is not always a bad thing, it may be marginally inconvenient but most often, at any given time you are exactly where you are meant to be!
We spend so much time rushing from one thing to another, does a few extra minutes really matter?
And for those of you who know me well, being late and holding up others generally stresses me, but as I get older I am getting to accept the force sometimes known as serendipity.
Stop – when a mishap happens whether a stubbed toe, spilled coffee, something forgotten, a stain on your clothes or broken shoe there is always a solution.
- Put everything you need for the day next to your keys
- Have a couple of spare items of clothing neatly located at work or in your car
- A simple text or call to your appointment to let them know you are running late
- How much will this affect the rest of your day?
- Can it be resolved relatively easily?
- Try to find a bit of humour in the mishap
You will usually find that the issue is not nearly as large as you first thought and with a few simple steps the problem can be solved.
